7 Little Changes That Will Make A Big Difference In Your Upvc Replacement Door Handles

UPVC Replacement Door Handles

Over time the handles on your doors will wear out and require replacement. When doing this it is crucial that the new handles match the critical dimensions of the handle that was previously used.

The top screw position the lever, and the keyhole sizes are the three measurements that you need to check. Use the size guide to aid you.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever handle is a contemporary door handle designed to suit new or replacement doors. This style of handle is available in many designs and finishes. A variety of manufacturers provide this handle including Avocet, ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The handles of uPVC/Composite are constructed from durable materials, and are ideal for doors with multiple points that require a robust design. The handles are inline, and use the same screws and spindle to secure them. They can be easily installed on any uPVC/Composite doors.

The handle can be adjusted and angled to suit all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles, this will ensure the quality of the finish and the performance of the handle over time. The lever that springs is adjustable to accommodate a wide range of locks. This is especially useful for narrower door frames where the cylinder is further back. A shorter lever is an excellent option for doors where the latch can be opened by a thumb turn on the inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle is different from the lever handles commonly found on doors. These handle types are either operated by one spindle, or two spindles, inline or offset. They are commonly used on UPVC doors with double glazing. They come in a range of finishes & variations.

The handles have been tested to at least 200,000 cycles and are available in various finishes, including White, Silver, Chrome & Gold. The finish is in line with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, which gives the handle a high level of durability and performance for the intended use.

All UPVC lever pads for handles include a spindle and screws and can be installed on the uPVC door. The 211mm backplate fixation centres allow for a bigger handle, which is typically a benefit when replacing a damaged or old multi-point door lock mechanism. The handle levers are spring-loaded, which solves the issue of handles hanging out of the horizontal position when not in use.

When selecting a replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ of the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC door. This measurement is also known as the 'handle centre' or 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect to match the appropriate handles.

Once you have the correct PZ size you will then be required to make sure that the handle lever pads and push pads are in a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant handles that you need for your doors. These are typically a square or round shape with an internal lever and an external push pad.

The majority of UPVC Lever Pads we sell are sprung. This means they can be reverted to a horizontal position after not in use, rather than hanging and possibly securing to the frame. This keeps draughts out of the home. You will also find that the majority of the UPVC handle lever pad style handles are swivel which allows you to place them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other kinds of doors. They work with a key to unlock a cylinder case which is then revealed with pins that can be aligned with those in the lock body and allow them to rotate an revolving cam, opening the door. Euro Cylinders are available with up to six pins. Doors that are internal and external require different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder you choose is vital. It is based on the amount of use your doors and handles will receive. For instance, doors that are external require a more secure cylinder while doors inside can be secured with an ordinary cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders come with additional features which can enhance security further, such as anti-drill and anti-bump characteristics.

A euro cylinder needs to be properly measured to ensure that it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder must be measured from the screw hole in the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn should there be one. If you are unable measure it using the lock in its position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon could be susceptible to attacks like snapping locks, so it is important that it is not too long.

Most newer cylinders have been constructed with anti-drill and bump resistance features that are built into their design. These are designed to reduce attack chances by forcing the cylinders to rotate in a different direction. This will help to stop the attack and ensure your doors are secure.

Certain cylinders are constructed to resist snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A specially designed tool is used to break the lock's break line and then the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is a quicker and simpler method to gain access than the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves less evidence of the burglary which can delay insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is situated in the base plate of the door handle. It is a spring-loaded solution to bring your multipoint lock handles back to their normal position after using. The handles were previously equipped with no spring and would droop when the locking mechanism was disconnected. This simple part is the best solution to solve this issue. It also helps prevent your upvc door from becoming stuck in the open or closed position since they are difficult to close manually.

These spring cassettes were designed to be used with a spring multipoint lock. They will not fit handles that are not sprung and you'll need to cut a hole in the backplate to allow them to fit. (Please see  www.repairmywindowsanddoors.co.uk  for a detailed diagram). They are a replacement for damaged or missing cassettes inside the backplate of the door handle for numerous brands of uPVC doors. They have a square cut-out that allows for an 8mm spindle to be used and are available in a variety of.

These spring cassettes offer a great value solution to the issue of door handles that are sagging. They are easy to fit and will prolong the lifespan of your uPVC doors.
